Walter Lamb (1901-1980) lived in Hawaii in the 1940s where he experienced the consequences the attack of Pearl Harbor has caused. Lamb took salvaged metals and reused them to design his outdoor furniture, as an “inventive recycler” as Elle Decoration called it in an article in 2017. He reused bronze, copper and metal that were left behind from the military and sculpted the frames of his pieces with cord as the seating material. Lamb’s designs are characterized by lightness and liquidity and materials that get admirable patina over time. The successful collaboration between Lamb and Brown Jordan started in the 1950s.

Substantial glazed planters by California Artist Sam Trujillo, 1983. Large hand thrown thumb planters by Sam Trujillo for Ceramic Design. At first glance, many would think (often misattributed) these are by Stan Bitters but after doing some research we have solved the mystery makers marks. These beautiful glazed pieces were designed by San Trujillo in 1983 for Ceramic Design company in Fresno. Sam worked alongside Stan Bitters and John Bennett at the Hans Sumpf company and you can see he had considerable influence from Stan’s designs. The Sumpf company closed in the early 70’s and John Bennett formed Ceramic Designs when Earthform (which he also started) closed in the late 70’s. Sam worked with John Bennett at Ceramic design through the 80’s. There is not much information on the company and it is unknown when they closed. We are showing the jar with the larger tray on top, which is how it came from the original owners home as a birdbath on a gorgeous oceanfront home in Laguna Beach. The tray is not attached and can be taken off if desired. The jar measures 20” H x 13” D. The tray alone is 20” diameter. Total height is 23.5”. No drain holes in the jar. The large thumbprint pot is signed CD ‘82 21-18 ST. Which is Ceramic Designs 83. Model 21” H x 18” D and ST Is the artist Sam Trujillo. One drain hole. Price listed is for EACH PLANTER
