Hammered tin Brutalist tin candelabra by Mexican artist Gene Byron. Handmade of hand-hammered tin with lovely detail, this beautiful piece was also featured in the Verna Cook Shipway Mexican modernism design books of the 1960s. Signed with monogram on underside. Measures 23″ H x 17.5″ W x 5″ D
Ms. Byron, a Canadian Artist moved to De La Palomas, Guanajuato in the mid-1950s. She restored, refurbished and re-designed an astounding Casa with her Spanish husband who was a doctor. Ms. Byron rose to prominence in the 1960s-1970s creating tin candelabras, lighting and wall sconces. The export of her wares to the US was in high demand. Today her estate is now a culture museum; hosting many classical and Jazz Concerts, as well Art Exhibitions. Both examples of her work and photos of her estate where featured in famous ‘Shipway’ Mexican interior and design books of the 1960s.

Teak cabinet by Henrik Casse, circa 1960. Beautiful design, reminiscent of Arne Vodder designs. Henrik Casse was a little known furniture cabinet maker and designer in the Danish showroom, Den Permanente. Beautiful sculpted teak pulls with 8 beautifully crafted and dovetailed drawers that fit together seamlessly. Professionally restored in showroom condition. Could be used as a small dresser or entry, hallway piece as well. Measures: 33″ W x 16.5″ D x 29″ H.
Walnut cube table from the Private Collection of Julius Shulman, circa 1955. Professionally restored walnut in showroom condition, purchased from the estate of world famous midcentury photographer Julius Shulman’s Hollywood Hills estate, designed by Architect Raphael Soriano in 1947. The CH23 dining chair is an early example of Hans J. Wegner’s unique style and insightful craftsmanship, and contains many well-known Wegner details – for example, the elegantly shaped cruciform caps on the backrest and the special double-woven paper cord seat. Wegner was a master in making complex designs appear simple, and despite the CH23 chair’s richness in unique detail, its appearance is ultimately light and simple. The chair has no armrests, which makes it practical for fitting around the table, even in small rooms. Thanks to its ingenious design and organic form, it is also unsurpassed for comfort.
